Frequently Asked Questions

Are Quartz countertops considered a natural product?

Quartz countertops are considered an engineered stone product. They are made by combining natural Quartz with polymer resins and pigments, resulting in a surface that mimics the beauty of natural stone while providing enhanced durability and maintenance benefits.

Can I choose the edge style (profile) of my Quartz countertops?

Yes. We offer several popular options for edges that are included in your quote. If you are interested in a specific edge profile for your Quartz countertops, just let us know!

Can I choose the exact slab of Quartz for my project?

Yes. We have found that by letting you select the exact slabs of Quartz for your project, you have the opportunity to add your own personal preferences and tastes to what will ultimately become your ideal Quartz countertop space. As far as we know, Carolina Granite is the only company in the area that offers this at no additional charge.

Can I cut on my Quartz countertops?

While Quartz is scratch-resistant, it’s not scratch-proof. Cutting directly on Quartz countertops can dull your knives and possibly mar the surface over time. It’s recommended to use a cutting board to protect both your countertops and knives.

Can I place hot items like cooking pans on my Quartz countertops?

It’s not recommended to place hot items directly on Quartz countertops as the heat can damage the resin binders in the material, potentially causing discoloration or cracks. Use trivets or hot pads to protect your countertops.

Can I use my own sink with my new Quartz countertops?

Yes. You can use your own sink if you’d like. It needs to be a true undermount sink. Or you can use one of the sinks we can provide.

Can I use Quartz for an outdoor kitchen or bar?

Quartz is not recommended for outdoor use as direct sunlight and UV rays can cause the color to fade over time. For outdoor applications, materials specifically designed for outdoor use are preferable.

Can Quartz countertops be damaged after installation?

Quartz countertops are highly durable but can be damaged by excessive force, heat, or harsh chemicals. Avoid using abrasive cleaners and always use a cutting board and trivets to protect the surface. Do not stand on your countertops.

Can Quartz countertops crack?

While Quartz countertops are very durable, they can crack if exposed to extreme force or sudden changes in temperature. To prevent cracking, avoid placing hot items directly on the surface and use a cutting board to avoid impacts from heavy objects.

Do I have to be home during the installation process?

We do ask that an adult over the age of 18 be at home during the installation in case we have any questions.

Do I need to seal my Quartz countertops?

No, Quartz countertops do not require sealing. The non-porous surface of Quartz means it’s naturally resistant to staining and bacteria, making it low maintenance compared to natural stone.

Do Quartz countertops stain?

Quartz countertops are relatively stain-resistant due to their non-porous nature. They do not absorb liquids, making them resistant to staining from common household items when wiped up promptly.

Do you have financing options available for Quartz countertop projects?

Yes. We work with a local bank that offers easy home improvement financing for things like Quartz countertops. If you are interested, we can connect you with our dedicated representative at the bank who will work with you.

Do you provide a warranty for your Quartz countertops?

We guarantee our work to be completed at a professional level by trained experts. With Quartz countertops, the manufacturers do provide warranties for the product itself and we will provide you with the information you’ll need to activate that warranty.

Do you provide Quartz backsplash?

Yes. We can provide a standard 4” or 5” Quartz backsplash or we can provide a full backsplash that goes all the way from the countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinets.

Do you remove my existing countertops?

Yes. Our quote includes removal and disposal of your old laminate, solid surface, Quartz, or granite countertops. If you have ceramic tile countertops there is an additional charge to remove and dispose of those.

How do I choose the right Quartz color or pattern for my home?

Choosing the right Quartz color or pattern involves considering your home’s overall style and color scheme. Quartz comes in a variety of colors, from neutrals to bold hues, and patterns that mimic the look of natural stone or offer unique, modern designs. Consider bringing samples of your cabinetry, flooring, or paint to compare with Quartz samples to find the perfect match.

How do I maintain and clean my Quartz countertops?

Maintaining and cleaning Quartz countertops is easy. Simply wipe them down with a soft cloth and a mild detergent or a non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive sponges, as they can damage the surface.

How does Carolina Granite cut their Quartz countertops?

Carolina Granite utilizes modern technology to ensure your Quartz countertops are created perfectly. Our fabrication shop is also environmentally friendly as our machines are designed to “wet” cut and polish Quartz, which produces a better cut and less dust.

How long do Quartz countertops last?

Quartz countertops are designed to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Their durability and resistance to wear and tear make them a long-lasting investment for your home.

How long will I be without a kitchen/bathroom while my Quartz countertops are being installed?

In most cases, we complete the entire job of removing your old countertops and installing the new Quartz countertops all in the same day.

How much does Quartz weigh?

Quartz weighs around 20-25 pounds per square foot. It is denser than granite, hence why it is heavier.

How thick are Quartz countertops?

We only work with the industry standard 3cm thick Quartz.

Is Quartz a good choice for bathroom countertops?

Quartz is also a great choice for bathroom countertops due to its non-porous surface, which is resistant to moisture and bacteria, making it hygienic and easy to clean. Its versatility in design can complement any bathroom décor.

Why should I choose Quartz over other stones for my countertops?

Quartz offers the perfect blend of beauty and functionality. It’s more durable and less porous than natural stone, making it more resistant to staining, scratching, and bacteria. Quartz also offers a wider variety of designs and colors, making it easier to match with your home decor.

Will my Quartz countertops have pits on the surface?

Quartz is engineered to be smooth and consistent, so it typically does not have pits on the surface. Any imperfections are usually minimal and a result of the manufacturing process, rarely affecting the overall appearance or functionality of the countertop.

Will my Quartz countertops have seams?

Most Quartz countertops will have seams, especially if your countertop layout is large or complex. However, our skilled fabricators aim to place seams strategically where they are least noticeable and match the flow of the Quartz’s pattern, minimizing the seam’s appearance. We are frequently complimented by clients on the minimal visibility of our seams.

Will Quartz countertops possibly increase the value of my home?

Although we’re not licensed appraisers and every home is valued differently, we can say that Quartz countertops are a desirable feature for many homebuyers and can increase the value and appeal of your home in the eyes of a prospective buyer. We frequently work with customers who are preparing their home to be sold.
